Maison Binoclette (which used to be Supercalifragilistick) is a cool project created by Fanette and Alexis, two young students from Toulouse. The idea is simple: to offer sticker glasses to customise your Mac & iPad.

Launched on Ulule, Maison Binoclette collected over 150% of the requested sum !

Today, Maison Binoclette is launched and they hope for just one thing: that you’re pleased with your glasses! So let’s go back with Fanette and Alexis to the origins of their project, their use of social networks…and the reasons for such a success.

How did the idea of the stickers come to you?

This apple on my Mac seemed really plain to me, and the snow white has been seen and seen again that we said to ourselves there’s a market which could use our graphic design, web development and commercial skills. But what? I looked at my nose…Et voila, the idea was right there!

Why did you choose crowdfunding to fund your project ?

We both have blogs (fanetteg & paperdonut), and quite a big community on the web.  This type of funding was a way to make people who support us online participate in funding our project, and receive some great rewards in return. And for us, it meant we didn’t need to fork out this sum which, as students, we just couldn’t afford.

How useful were social networks to the success of your project?

The success of Maison Binoclette and its funding are undoubtedly down to social networks. Our respective networks on Twitter and Facebook enabled us to communicate our project on a large scale. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today !

How have you Comment avez-vous suscitées vos retombées médias ?

We have been contacted by several quite different sites which is great. It’s great publicity and a way to get people to talk about your project, and today our sales are principally thanks to this word of mouth on the internet. It’s also cool to discover that sites you like are talking about you!

What type of exchange do you have with your supporters?

A really good one! Always lots of encouragements, lots of emails…It has really boosted our confidence. I wanted to keep close to my supports, notably via Ulule news and the shop’s blog.

What advice would you give to other project owners?

Keep faith ! If you know your project deserves to exit, there will always be people behind you.

Do you have any tips for the presentation of a project ?

Presentation is THE path to success. On the internet, visual is everything, so you’ve got to have lots of striking pictures.

How did the time limit on your project work for you? Was it too long or too short?

Way too long. We put 60 days because we had no idea of the project’s potential. We collected the total quite quickly, so the 40 following days of waiting were unbearable!

Which aspect of your campaign do you think played the biggest part in the success of your project?

I think it was a bit of everything. But especially the presentation, the care that we brought to this baby that is Maison Binoclette. The site took us many, many hours, the stickers were packaged with care and nothing was neglected. We print our own envelopes with cool typing…the attention to detail!

I love receiving emails saying things like “I was only awaiting a sticker, but the packaging kicks ass!”

Thanks, both of you!
