Facebook Ads: How do they work?

    If I mentioned advertising on the internet, surely Google AdWords would come to mind. You’re right, but there are also numerous other advertising agencies on the internet.

    Undoubtedly you will have noticed that Facebook also offers the possibility of posting ads. In concrete terms, Facebook represents over 400 million active users who, each month, spend more than 500 billion minutes on it, and communicate on their personal data.

    Suffice to say that this could represent a considerable marketing power.

    How does Facebook’s advertising agency work?

    As with AdWords, you pay by CPC (cost per click). The big difference is in the type of targets. With Facebook, you have the possibility of targeting your ad by:

    • Geography
    • Age
    • Gender
    • Key words
    • Training
    • Employment
    • Marital status
    • Contacts recherchés
    • Languages

    Here’s how to proceed:

    Go to the Facebook advertising page. Click on “Create an ad” to start.

    1)      Create your ad.  


    Enter the URL for the destination of your ad.

    Make sure that the destination page is linked to your ad.

    Give your ad a title (25 characters max).

    Avoid putting capital letters on each word, or cramming it with ineffectual punctuation – you’ll risk having your ad refused.

    Complete the body of your ad (135 characters max)

    Present your project or service in a way that encourages the webber to click.

    Add a picture to your ad (max size 110 x 80 pixels).

    Use sparingly, a picture can be the vehicle to success, or failure.

    On the following page, choose the demographics data you want for your ad. Then you can choose your target (choice of genre, age,

    Choose whether you want to pay per click (CPC) or cost per impression (CPM).

    When you pay per click, you only pay Facebook when someone clicks on your ad. If you select by impression, you pay each time your ad is posted online.

    Establish your daily budget.

    Put in the amount of money you are prepared to pay each day.

    Establish the maximum cost of a click.

    The amount you are going to pay really depends on the popularity of your ad.
