Darkroom/Vermont Photo Space Gallery in Essex Jct., Vermont seeks entries for a juried photography exhibition. Free framing/ matting, Juror's Choice, Peoples Choice.

Photography is the medium of memory. With its birth came the pictorial press and the realization that “a picture tells a thousand words.” This is documentary photography. It is present and tangible, and we rely on it to be authentic and true; it teaches us and when presented in proper context, we believe what we see.

It is the job of the Photojournalist and Documentary Photographer to present the facts at hand.  It is a challenging job often requiring instant decisions and sometimes in the face of substantial obstacles. Is it possible to capture a photographic truth while simultaneously expressing our naturally subjective eye?

For “A True Story” we’re looking for the documented event, person, or place, whether political, religious, cultural or environmental. Reality itself is infinitely more complex than what a single image can show, so we encourage your Photo Essay submissions of up to six images (some single images tell the whole thing adequately – we’re pleased to consider these equally).

Of special note: we are able to accept essays for this exhibition!

A picture tells a thousand words; the Photo Essay writes a book.
