The Dance Umbrella Festival 2011 will run from February 25 to March 13, 2011.
Featuring mainly new contemporary choreography and dance from both local and international dance companies and choreographers, Dance Umbrella 2011 promises once again to feature the very best of South African dance.
The event will take place in the Market Theatre Complex, Dance Factory and other site-specific spaces.
The festival will be programmed as follows:
- the Main programme will feature only commissioned work and invited local and international companies.
- the "Fringe" programme will feature new works (not exceeding a running time of 40 minutes) from professional choreographers
- Stepping Stones will remain an open platform for youth and community groups; dance schools and young choreographers.
The funding for Dance Umbrella 2011 is still being negotiated with various funding organizations and foundations. The 2011 Festival will thus be run in accordance with the funds raised.
